This is the Foundation 2 class for 4 to 5 year olds. The children follow the full British Curriculum and work towards achieving the Early Learning Goals. This class is more structured than the Foundation 1 Classes but still places great emphasis on the children becoming independant. They are given greater responsibility within the classroom and are expected to choose their own activities, collect their workbooks, manage their clothing and shoes by themselves and find their snackbox, unpack & tidy it away.
Reading and writing is the main focus in this year group and the children enjoy daily numeracy and literacy hours as well as story time and circle time. We use the Oxford Tree and Ginn Reading schemes and the class has it's own, well stocked library. The classroom is filled with fun numeracy and literacy games and puzzles and the children are given the opportunity to explore letters and numbers through daily writing activities, painting, stamping, games, independant and group reading, and through the use of fun materials such as sand and shaving foam. Mathematical development is encouraged with mathematical games and equipment, number and counting worksheets, water play, science experiments and practical exercises.
The remaining areas of learnng are taught through dance and movement sessions, arts and crafts, topic work, field trips, role-play and imaginitive play, P.E., constuction toys and equipment, group activities, musical instruments and singing. The class is also equipped with 2 computers for daily I.T sessions.
