| Diamond Class |
Diamond Class is a pre-nursery class and has a daily average of 27 3 to 3 and a half year olds. This is the beginning of the Foundation stage of learning and is therefore a little more structured. The children are introduced to the phonetic alphabet using ‘Letterland’ and have lots of fun singing the songs and colouring the characters.
Children in the Diamond class are taught to recognize and trace their own name and are given basic pre-reading and writing worksheets. Fine motor skills are developed through the use of tools such as paintbrushes, glue spatulas, chubby crayons and chalks, threading apparatus, fastening frames and safety scissors; which all help the children to gain dexterity and learn to grip a pencil properly. There are still plenty of opportunities for free play as well as lots of puzzles, fun mathematical apparatus, sand and water play and play- dough. There is a home corner and a cozy book corner, and the children enjoy a story time every morning.
Every day the children enjoy two ‘circle times’ which can involve a variety of things such as learning about numbers and shapes, counting, days of the week, singing or show and tell. The children particularly enjoy the regular dance and movement sessions and trying out various musical instruments. |
