Emerald Class

These are our 3 to 4 year olds who are all getting ready for Reception Year. Most of the children have already turned four and are working their way through the Foundation Stage. Emphasis is on preparing the children for writing and reading and encouraging their independence. Language development is also an important part of the Foundation stage and extra help is available for children for whom English is a second language.

The phonetic alphabet is covered daily either through worksheets, singing or at circle time and the children regularly practice their pre-writing skills and work on their pencil control. By the end of the year almost all of the children will be able to write their name, some will be copy writing, and a few will be showing signs of reading readiness or may already have started using the Oxford Tree Reading Scheme. Each term’s topic covers the six areas of learning and includes field trips to relevant places of interest, e.g. the museum, Al Areen Wildlife Park and Al Jasra handicrafts center.

Story time and circle time give the children an opportunity to learn about a variety of subjects and to share their own news and ideas. There are lots of new songs to learn each term including number and finger rhymes, as well as dance and movement sessions, role-play and drama. The end if the year is celebrated with a Graduation Ball with a sash, Graduation hat and certificate awarded to each child, as well as a full report.
