The children in the Pearl class are aged between 2 and a half to 3 years. There is an average of 26 children per day, with 5 members of staff. Whilst still being a pre-school class, the children are a little bit older than those in Ruby and Sapphire classes and therefore enjoy more art and craft activities and slightly longer story and circle times.
Emphasis is still on social skills and language development and there is of course lots of fun and free play. Daily activities include painting, arts and crafts, colouring, play-dough, construction toys (e.g lego and Duplo), sand and water play and a home corner. There are also lots of educational toys for teaching counting, sorting and matching, and fine motor skills. The class follows a fun theme every term giving plenty of opportunities for the children to learn new ideas and build their vocabulary.
The children learn lots of new songs and rhymes and are introduced to exciting new stories. There is a large, completely shaded play area for the children to enjoy twice a day, and if the weather is nice they also take part in a P.E. session outside once a week. The day often ends in an impromptu dance session to refresh everybody before home time! |
